The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), founded in 1900, is one of the largest art museums in North America and an important cultural landmark in Toronto. Its collection includes over 90,000 works of art, ranging from early historical pieces to contemporary works. The AGO is especially well known for its Canadian art, including a strong collection of paintings by the Group of Seven, alongside Indigenous art and modern international works. The museum also displays notable European masterpieces. In 2008, the AGO reopened following a major redesign by architect Frank Gehry, whose additions, such as the Galleria Italia, gave the building a new and recognizable presence in the city.
Visiting the AGO offers students a chance to experience art beyond textbooks and classrooms. Seeing original works up close helps students better understand artistic techniques, historical context, and creative expression, making the museum a valuable place for learning and inspiration.
