Built in 1973, the CN Tower (Canadian National Tower) is one of Toronto's greatest landmarks. Standing at 553 metres, it was the highest standing building until 2009, until the Burj Khalifa in Dubai surpassed the height of the CN Tower. The building is now the third-tallest building in the world. Over 2 million people every year visit the CN Tower.
There are many parts of the tall standing structure, including the Edge Walk, Glass Floor, SkyPod, and the 360 restaurant. The elevators of the tower take 58 seconds to reach the bottom of the tower to the main observation level, travelling at a speed of 22km per hour. The CN tower hosts the EdgeWalk, the world's highest full circle hands-free walk and the first of its kind in North America.
Another major attraction of the CN tower is the 360 restaurant. High above the city, 360 completes a full rotation every 72 minutes, giving guests a stunning view up to New York that complements delicious regional cuisine from all across Canada.
In the 1960s, construction and advancement in Toronto turned it to a cosmopolitan destination. At the time, the signals for Radio and television to the new buildings weren’t strong enough. To solve this problem, Canadian National employed more than 1500 workers for over 40 months to build the CN tower. Once completed, it would be the tallest tower in the world and capable of broadcasting signals far and wide.
